Val is a qualified and experienced Garden Designer, Horticultural Therapist, Teacher and Mental Health and Wellbeing Specialist. Having enjoyed a rich and varied professional life, including spending several years in the education sector, his garden design work has been featured in regional and national magazines. He has designed both domestic and commercial landscapes including designing for Hartley Botanic Glasshouses at the Chelsea Flower Show. Val currently passes his skills to others through teaching garden design to adults for the British Academy of Garden Design.

Working in partnership SBH Val provides a wide variety of services from consultation through to detailed site survey, analysis, design and construction. We provide all materials (including plants) and labour and will always endeavour to match our solutions to your needs and budget.

You don’t have to be a self build in order to take advantages of this particular service. Our Landscaping service is open to everyone. We would particularly welcome enquiries from clients who are keen to create gardens to enhance mental health and wellbeing and also from schools and colleges.

Pricing is clear and value great

We used Self build Heroes to replace the soffit on our balcony and to repair part of our downpipe and roof tile. Their work is high quality compared to the soffit they replaced, which did not have all the trim and had started to sag because additional noggins had not been added to secure the soffit took. They worked efficiently, were friendly, polite and respectful on site, and cleaned up after themselves. They turned up promptly, when they said they would and did a full day of work. The manner in which they work fills you with confidence that they are going to do an excellent job. I know they are highly trained and always looking to perfect their trade. Prior to starting they took plenty of time to discuss what needed to happen and talk through solutions, as well as advising where we could do the work ourselves if we wanted in order to save some money. Pricing is clear and value great. I highly recommend them and will be using them again to fix more things around our house.
